KUDOS:  Thank you to Kumiko Nguyen for organizing a fun night for Alamo parents at Board and Brush. Thank you to Board and Brush for giving 20% back of the signups back to Alamo.

Thank you to Stacey Blackman, the chair of Birthday books.  Stacey organizes birthday books with Mrs. Wehrley throughout the year.  Please consider purchasing a birthday book in honor of your child and add to our Alamo library. Thank you Stacey for all of your hardwork!

GRANDPARENTS/SPECIAL VIP DAY- Thank you to all who have registered for Grandparents/VIP Day this Friday, September 21, registration is now closed.  We are excited to host our first ever Grandparents/VIP Day at Alamo School!  For those who have registered, you will be receiving a Welcome email in the next few days with additional event details.  

In the meantime, there are few important details to highlight:

1.  This is a special event for Grandparents and VIPs only.  We have many volunteers to assist your guests navigate around the school.  If a guest needs special assistance, please let us know in advance so we can make accommodations or register a parent to attend.  Special requests can be sent to

2.  Parking -  School parking will be open but spaces are limited.  Parking along the MPR will be dedicated to handicapped parking.  We ask those capable of walking a short distance to park on Dapplegray so those that have physical constraints, will have access to school parking.  

3.  PTA Waiver -  We must have a completed waiver for all guests.  Please complete at:

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND: Informational meeting for Odyssey of the Mind is this Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m.  in the library.  Odyssey of the Mind is a problem-solving competition for students in kindergarten thru fifth grade which aims to foster creative, original and divergent thinking. Teams of students select a problem, create a solution, then present their solution in a competition. By working in teams, participants learn to appreciate and understand others and that a group is a more powerful thinking force than an individual. We are looking for interested students to participate, as well as interested parents to coach student teams. Please come join us to learn more about the opportunity! REFLECTIONS-  This year our district is celebrating Reflections 50th Year with a theme of "Heroes Around Me." Please join us on Wednesday, September 19th from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. for an ICE CREAM SOCIAL and kick off to learn about how you can get involved in submitting a project for Reflections.

Peter Ensrud, professional photographer, Alamo parent and Alamo's Reflection chair will speak to our children about the Reflections contest as well as introduce them to photography.

Please RSVP to Peter Ensrud by Monday, September 17th if you will be attending the ice cream social.

RUN CLUB-RUN CLUB-Run club will start this Wednesday, September 19th with a new start time of 7:55 a.m.  Please make sure you have filled out the PTA waiver for your students so they can participate.   Run club is a fun way to get started in the morning.  Students/parents and teachers either run or walk around our Alamo field.  Runners receive a bracelet and earn charms based on how many miles they run throughout the year.  If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Economos at  PTA Waiver:


The Fall Book Fair opens Friday!  

Hours are:

·       Friday, September 21 10am - 3:30pm

·       Monday September 24: 8:20 am - 3:30 pm and 6-8 pm for Family Reading Night

·       Tuesday September 25: 8:20 am - 3:30 pm

·       Wednesday September 26: 8am - 2:30pm

·       Thursday September 27: 7:35 am - 1 pm (7:30 am - 8:30 am Dads and Doughnuts)

Tuesday, September 25 is Family Reading Night and the Book Fair will be open from 6pm - 8pm when you can take advantage of a special buy 4 books, get a 5th book FREE sale.

We will also be open from 7:35 am - 8:30 am Thursday morning September 27 for “Dads and Doughnuts” - please join us for coffee and doughnuts while you shop with your child!

We encourage parents to purchase a book for their child’s classroom.  You can find teacher “wish lists” at the Book Fair.

We will be accepting donations of your gently used books for our sister school, Lake Elementary.

Family Reading Night: The second Family Reading Night is fast approaching.  This will be during the Book Fair.   

Date:  September 25th

Time: 6:30 (readers please arrive by 6:25)

Location:  Alamo School Library

If you have not been to this event before, typically 40-50 students and their parents come to the library and listen to Mr. Hitomi, parents, teachers, staff and older students read stories aloud.  Some of the younger students even show up ready for bedtime sporting PJs with their pillows and stuffed animals.  

This I am looking for 6-7 readers.  This quarter's theme is ANIMALS.

HOEDOWN-SAVE THE DATE: October 12th-5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.-Alamo School’s legendary Hoedown will be held Friday, October 12th from 5-9 p.m. Games, prizes, food trucks, music and more! All of your old favorites and a few new surprises! Tickets and volunteer signups will be available Monday, September 24th! Join us for the biggest event of the year!

YARD DUTY-We are always looking for yard duty volunteers during lunch.  Have you always wondered what your student does during recess?  Come find out! Please contact Christine Wheatley at to be added to her signup email.
